It's great to see new ideas coming through into the nursery this year, with many of the exciting brands showing in Cologne. Across Europe there have been some fresh innovations. The Smallworld design Babymade, by Marlip of Denmark has brought a new interpretation of ‘baby 'to their bedrooms with a minimalistic, stylish feel. The Egg-Max children's cradle by Kotura Design in Germany has also been a big success, offering a unique, secure and comforting ‘egg-shaped space' for a baby to sleep. It's made partly from acrylic and partly from stone to form a a wonderful material that requires no painting. Also from Kotura, the Lunnetta cot has turned heads. This cylindrical bed has a drop side that can be pushed down to any height allowing a parent more flexibility when lifting the baby out. It looks quite stunning as the centrepiece of a new baby bedroom.
Geuther has continued its two-tone theme s by mixing natural wood finishes with painted ones in the 2008 Siesta and Prestige ranges. Dutch firm Kidsmill continues to offer an extraordinary range of nursery furniture for those who seek to coordinate their baby's room perfectly in virtually any style from ostentatious yet classic to quietly simple. For something truly imposing Boori offers a choice of five substantial cotbeds made entirely from real timber, including the beautiful Sleigh Cotbed. There are eight different pieces of furniture that can be bought alongside, in a choice of finish to match the cot.
The timeless Stokke range of Sleepi (mini cot and cotbed), Keep (wardrobe) and Care ( changing station), continue to lead the way in style and function bringing superb value for money to the more discerning consumer.
Away from the furniture hardware, the extras have become wonderfully creative in 2008. Our home grown FunToSee will be taking a stand at Cologne, as will NScessity who supply state-of-the-art baby monitors.
Bed Ted, is a young company with high ideals based in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. They produce a small range of essential bedding and themed ranges in big prints in soft colours. Their difference is their philosophy: ‘Our goal at Bed Ted is to lead the way not only in style, value and quality but also with our ideals. We aim to establish our reputation as a responsible company by setting the highest ethical standards. Safer products that exceed recommended guidelines, to take no part in exploitative overseas child labour and to conduct business to fair trade standards'. Izziwotnot continues to offer a fabulous range of coordinating designs, as does market leaders Mamas & Papas.
But when it comes to nursery, don't just think big, think clever. Brother Max does just that in every product it releases. It's latest release for example is a nursery must-have. The 3-in-1 Thermometer is so brilliant, it will make you smile! It takes just one second for the infrared technology to deliver a precise reading either via the ear or forehead. It can be wall-mounted or sit on a flat surface, but obviously if you're away you may need it so it comes in it's own travel case. But the best part is that you can read it anyway up!
