As favourite patchwork elephant, Elmer prepares to take centre stage in the theatre this December, it looks like he'll be number one on Christmas lists too thanks to Rainbow Designs. The story of Elmer, the classic patchwork elephant created by David McKee, has been brought to life for the first time ever by the Birmingham Stage Company and to complement the show, Rainbow Designs' soft toys will be available from the theatre gift shop. The toys will be on sale during the three-week run of the Elmer stage show at The Capitol Theatre in Horsham, West Sussex.
Neil Foster, Actor Manager at the Birmingham Stage Company said, 'When the Elmer show toured the UK earlier in the year, the small quantity of Rainbow Designs' Elmer toys we had available sold out in no time. So we decided to be prepared for the Christmas season by ordering a much larger quantity. This way the young children who have had their imaginations ignited during the performance can continue the adventure at home with their very own Elmer.'
The first Elmer story was published in 1989 and more than two million copies have sold worldwide.
Rainbow Designs is one of the country's leading suppliers of licensed gifts, toys and collectables and is the name behind some of literature's best loved characters including Miffy, Paddington Bear, Peter Rabbit and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
This 55-minute show is for 3-6 year olds told with songs, magic and music. Its adapted and directed by Phil Clark and will be playing at The Capitol Theatre Horsham from 12 December - 4 January.
