LeapFrog Toys has teamed up with the National Schools Partnership (NSP) and X-Factor mum, Sinitta to launch the Tag ‘Love to Read' programme, a brand new literacy initiative to build a passion for reading among children. Developed for children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage One, the programme is based on the school curriculum and provides participating schools with exciting teaching materials devised by teachers in conjunction with literacy expert Jeni Riley. It also consists of a parents guide to help encourage reading practise at home.
Celebrity mum Sinitta says, 'Helping my children learn to read has been one of the most exciting and daunting tasks I've had as a parent. We all know that reading is the foundation of learning and we need to get it right, however it can be hard to know where to start. With ‘Love to Read' parents and teachers now have a fantastic resource to help encourage a love of reading.
More than 3,000 schools will be taking part in the programme. Each school will receive a teachers' pack to educate and entertain children with competitions for budding authors to win a Leapfrog Tag reading system which is also available in shops now.
Tag is a toy that helps children learn a variety of skills including reading, vocabulary and word building through games and activities within the books. The Tag system consists of an electronic reader to use with a range of classic and contemporary books from Paddington Bear and Dr Seuss, to Kung Fu Panda and Go Diego Go.
