Mr Tommee Tippee retires
Published:  01 May, 2007

After thirty years in the baby business, Richard Bowen, popular sales director of Jackel International, has retired.

Richard, 60, joined Jackel International, the name behind the Tommee Tippee brand, in 1987 soon after he launched the hugely successful Pur brand into the UK. Pur introduced silicone teats to the British market and became famous for its clear look and the Nipper Gripper, the bottle with the hole in the middle.

A Welshman fiercely proud of his heritage, Richard started his career as a trainee cost accountant at Cadbury but moved up the ladder to the export department. He then joined thriving baby company Lewis Woolf Griptight as export director and became sales and marketing director within a year.

At Jackel he has been involved in every sector of the company, but he has always actively championed the nursery business and is a strong supporter of the independent sector.

Last year his contribution was honoured at the Mother and Baby Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award, a surprise presentation which reduced him to tears.

His plans for retirement include golf, golf and more golf with some horse racing thrown in!

At Richard’s request Jackel’s managing director Steve Parkin presented him with a cheque for Leukaemia Research on behalf of the company. Richard’s son Christopher is now healthy after a successful bone marrow transplant following his diagnosis with leukaemia two years ago.

Said Steve Parkin: Richard has made a fantastic contribution not just to Jackel International and the Tommee Tippee brand but also to the nursery business in general. Everyone respects him and his knowledge is immense. His will be a very hard act to follow but we wish him all the very best for a long, happy, healthy and fruitful retirement.’
