NPD Group Launches POS Tracking Service for the Nursery Market

With 12 years experience in the toy industry behind us, we are launching into Nursery following persistent requests from some of our clients and retail partners.

The service is ideal for manufacturers, retailers and licensors who need to make more informed business decisions. It allows subscribers to analyse and respond to competition and market trends; focus in on categories and price points; evaluate brand performance; guide successful new product launches; negotiate on equal terms with trading partners to optimise product listings, shelf space and pricing; and more…

What areas are NPD covering?

We are launching with seven main category segments - Wheeled Goods; Infant Carriers; Car Seats; Travel Cots; Safety, Seats and Electrics. We will be tracking these categories at the manufacturer, brand and license levels.

When will data be available?

We are launching in July. Delivery will be available on a monthly, quarterly or b-annual basis. Back data will be available from January 2007.

What methodology are you using?

The service is based on point-of-sale retail sales data. The data will accurately reflect sales for those retailers included; it will not be extrapolated. UK coverage includes Mothercare, Boots, Halfords, Argos, Woolworths, Mail Orders and Grocers. We estimate these retailers to represent approximately 50% of the total nursery market.

Are we just tracking the UK Market?

We are launching in France in September 07. Britax and Chicco have already signed up. Plans are in place for extending the coverage to Germany, Spain and Italy in 2008.

Who is currently on board?

We are very pleased to confirm that Argos and Mothercare will be using the data to make their selections from July onwards. We are in the process of finalising agreements with a number of manufacturers.
