It may be global warming. It may be my faulty memory. But winters don't seem to be as cold as they once were. And with so many mothers having their own car, fewer babies are being taken out for long walks in the bad weather.
Lifestyles have changed and so has the need for keeping baby warm. Today's parents need things that are more flexible. A baby can be taken from a warm house into a cold car. Then a few miles down the road, the car has warmed up. At the end of the journey there's another brief encounter with the weather and then another warm environment.
This changing environment means that an extra blanket wrapped around baby is no longer the best solution. Luckily, some innovative brains have addressed the problem and more flexible wraps are now on the market. But like many things, this is a concept that needs selling. It's surprising the number of parents who simply do not think of the ease of keeping baby warm as a problem. It's a good job that most babies are fairly hardy! So when a prospective parent is buying a pushchair or a car seat for the imminent arrival, consider the 'extra' sale. Remind them that winter is coming - in the nicest possible way as we don't want to depress them too much! Have suitable wraps on display and point out the advantages. Many warps come in silky smooth fabrics and a variety of colours that make them a pleasure to use, so this is one sale that is a win for everyone involved!
And don't forget the soft shoe market. Add a pair of shoes to the sale and increase your profit still further.
