Wilkinet is launching its brand new brown denim fair-trade organic baby carrier into Europe for the first time, using fabric woven by weavers from an Indian fairtrade co-operative. The cotton is woven and dyed in Southern India and is specially made for Wilkinet by a family who also run a goat farm. Without the money from the weaving the family would find it difficult to survive.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, to reduce carbon emissions, it is made with fairtrade organic cotton and shipped to England rather than by air, packaged in a reusable cotton bag and lasts for generations making it truly environmentally friendly.
It is also the height of fashion! Gideon Wilkins, MD of Wilkinet and one of the babies that inspired the original Wilkinet, says: “Our new fairtrade organic denim is a wonderfully soft and sumptuous new fabric. We subscribe to fashion industry trend forecaster WGSN. Earthy colours and rich pastels are going to be very 'in' this coming autumn/winter, as are denim accessories. So the fairtrade organic Wilkinet allows mums to be stylish and eco-friendly”
This will be Wilkinet's first Kind und Jungend exhibition and already there is much interest from European retailers. Wilkinet will be on Stand 038 in Hall 11.1. Sally Wilkins the designer of the Wilkinet says: “I've wanted to offer an organic fairtrade option for several years but until now many of the fabrics we'd been offered weren't good enough to use for our baby carrier. With this new fabric we now know we can maintain our important quality standards for the carrier, while also supporting a community of dyers and weavers in an Indian fairtrade cooperative.”
