Stars of Channel 4's Bringing Up Baby
Published:  01 October, 2007

Many of you will have caught Channel 4's much trailered parenting programme, Bringing Up baby, which hit our screens on the 25th September and runs until 23rd October. What you may not have realised that our very own Claire Scott, co-owner of Close Baby Carrier and Modern Baby Reusable Nappies features as one of the baby experts.

The programme follows six different families, raising their children according to systems devised by childcare gurus. In each case, two families follow the advice of a well-known parenting guru. Two families follow Dr Truby King's methods, two adopt Dr Spock parenting techniques and two pursue the Continuum Concept of Jean Liedloff.

Mum to two girls, Claire, was the Continuum Concept mentor. Claire explains, “When you are being filmed with the families you forget that the camera is there and you get on with trying to help the new parents. I was nervous about what the show would end up depicting. I saw it a couple of weeks before transmission and I was very pleased with how it came across. Some of what's involved in the Continuum Concept could be seen as radical to the western world such as baby wearing, co-sleeping and community-based parenting, but in developing countries this is very much the norm. Claire, who up until the show had never been in the media spotlight, has been on TV, radio and national press talking about her involvement in the show. “It is pretty scary but I know my subject and I know my product so that gave me confidence.”

The product that Claire refers to is Close Baby Carrier - her hybrid baby sling that was launched in the UK earlier this year. The organic carrier features heavily in the show and Claire is confident it will impact sales.

“I have given retailers the opportunity to order more stock”, said Claire. “Fingers crossed that it will result in more sales for both Close Baby and bigger returns for our retailers.”
