Co-ordination has been a key feature for decorating the nursery for a number of years now with a number of parents decking out the baby's room in one perfectly co-ordinating set from a matching range of designer furniture, bedding and soft furnishing.
So does this mean that if you're a retailer who doesn't have the space or resources to display large amounts of the latest fads - including cot, changing table, wardrobe, curtains and bedding - that you'll miss out. Not necessarily. The Wilkinet Survey shows that only about one in five families go for the complete set from one supplier. A similar sized group still like to work to a theme, but are likely to buy products from several suppliers or even simply look in several places for things they like or meet their needs. Nearly a third of parents don't appear to be bothered by fashion in the nursery!
Bedding is an important area and one where getting it right tends to be more important than the price (within reason!!). Cream has been the favourite for some time now, often linked with beige. Licensed characters are also popular with Winnie the Pooh the clear favourite! One thing is clear, however, retailers need to offer a choice not only in colour but also in price and quality.
