Cambridge BrainBox at ToyFair
Published:  21 February, 2008

Cambridge BrainBox supply easy-to-assemble Electronic and Construction kits, many of which include experimental projects that support the UK National Curriculum. At the Toy Fair 2008 Cambridge Brainbox are demonstrating electronic kits including programmable control of an electric powered buggy, and the new Explorer 2; a comprehensive electronics kit that features software that enables  a computer to function as an oscilloscope.

Cambridge Brainbox are showing their full range of Electronics kits, together with a Solar Powered Car kit and a Walking Robot kit. We are showing pre-launch a computer Programmable Buggy kit, and launching the comprehensive new product Explorer 2 kit.

The computer programmable Buggy kit shows how a vehicle can be controlled by a set of instructions. These instructions move the vehicle forwards or backwards, turns it left or right, and stops. The instructions can be written on a computer and then downloaded via a USB cable to the buggy. The set of instructions, remain in the buggy's memory until it is re-programmed.

While providing children with a stimulating assembly task, the Buggy kit also appeals to parents and schools, as it covers the Control module of the ICT National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2. With plenty of scope to try out various options, the product will appeal to children who can have fun making the buggy negotiate an obstacle course or other challenges. It can be re-programmed as many times as they like.

An additional new Buggy model that will be available from mid-2008 can be controlled by a TV remote handset.

The Explorer 2 kit includes software that enables a computer to function as an oscilloscope, so that sound waves produced by the radio and sound modules can be studied.

Electronic sounds from police and ambulance sirens, machine gun, FM/AM radio and songs are included.

The advanced and comprehensive electronics kit helps children to learn more about motors, switches, sensors, resistance, capacitors, thyristors and displays. Solar power can also be explored, as a solar Panel is included with the kit. The Explorer 2 kit builds on the National Curriculum Science Key Stage 3 skills.
