Welcome
It's the first month of the new season and the biggest nursery show of the year is almost upon us. Everyone's sorting, stacking and running all to get ready for Harrogate!
Published:  20 March, 2008

It's very fitting for me to emerge back into the world of baby equipment in springtime, when manufacturers can barely hold back their enthusiasm for their new product lines. Will there be a surge towards bright colours and funky patterns in 2008, or will that slighlty serious beige and black still hold on to the top selling spots?

As most of you know Harrogate Nursery Fair is the all-important place to be at the end of this month. For three days this fine Northern town is bursting with retailers, manufacturers and buyers all discussing the latest baby products ready for the UK market. Last year there was a 7% increase in total number of people through the door and in fact the fair has grown every year for nearly a decade.

It's a very busy time for anyone in the industry. Wholesalers have planned these three days for months. Everyone wants to show off the very best they have to offer and entice those vital retail buyers to their stands. So what can you do to make it go well on the day?

Customer Service is something that matters at exhibitions. Many stands are swamped very early, and for these it's very difficult to improve customer service wihtout more bodies. But if you're a smaller stand with a less known product range, don't be afraid to talk to your visitors.

Ask them what their shop is like and what sells well. Ask them about colours and their displays and offer them extra support and incentives if they'll trial your products.

The highlight at Harrogate is the evening extravaganza. Sunday, as always, is the big night out at the Majestic Hotel with a three course meal and a performance by 'That'll be the Day' cabaret dance band followed by a late night disco. Just what you need before another six hours on your feet on Monday! But if you do miss Sunday night, there also a Fun Night at the Majestic on Monday, with not only an ABBA tribute band but a Rodeo Bull Simulator, Bungee Run, Air Hockey and Football, a Pinball Machine and some Arcade Games. What, do they think you haven't done enough already? What a feast of exercise and spectacle! Hope you enjoy it!
