UK Clothing manufacturer Frugi is celebrating being shortlisted in three categories for the 2008 Cornish Business Awards for Best Website, Best Innovation of the Year, and Entrepreneur of the Year.
Frugi, based near Helston, produces organic cotton clothing for babies, children and mums. The company is strongly committed to an environmental-friendly ethos and is growing rapidly - it already holds 1% of the UK's organic cotton clothing market. The latest project involves using potatoes for their packaging. Lucy Jewson, co-founder, states ‘We wanted an alternative solution to having to protect our clothes with conventional plastic poly bags.' Not content with the biodegradable films that most supermarkets are now using, and which are made with corn starch from genetically modified sources in the main, Lucy took three years to find a more eco approach - a fantastic bag made from non-GM potato starch.'
