Up to 35% of Mums are Buying Reusable Nappies
Published:  22 May, 2008

A new independent research report commissioned by the maternity guide, Emma's Diary, has revealed that up to 35 per cent  of mums are buying reusable nappies.

Ten years ago, only 2 per cent of mothers were purchasing reusable nappies. Over 2,600 expectant and new mothers were surveyed and the results indicated that the popularity of reusable nappies is certainly on the increase.

The report called ‘What Mums Really Want' was commissioned by Lifecycle Marketing, publishers of Emma's Diary and conducted by independent research company Mum's Views. The figure is based on women from 4 months pregnant onwards, up to mothers with children aged 6 months, over a one month period

Bambino Mio is experiencing a huge demand in their products, in line with this massive growth.

Reusable nappies are becoming increasingly popular for a number of reasons. Bambino Mio suggests that consumers are becoming more environmentally responsible and believe that by using cotton they are reducing the amount of waste thrown in landfill sites. It takes a disposable nappy in a landfill at least 300 years to decompose.

Local councils all over the UK are offering incentive schemes to help reduce environmental impact, where customers can receive cash for buying reusable nappies.

Another advantage of resuables is that they are more cost-effective than disposables. It is estimated that parents could save up to £600 during their child's nappy wearing life span by choosing to use reusable varieties instead of   throw-away brands.
