You may recall the BPA has an ongoing commitment to getting the rate of VAT reduced to 5% on ISOFIX and belted bases for child car seats. Currently treated by Revenue and Customs as an accessory these products, which dramatically improve the correct fitment of child seats and consequently child safety, carry 17.5% VAT.
After appealing the case with HMRC and having this rejected we are now heavily lobbying Government. We have mailed and emailed the whole of Westminster, written to the Treasury. The BPA has met with a number of MPs and Ministers and an Early Day Motion has also been set down by the leader of the SDLP, which has up to the time of writing received 30 signatures.
We hope that the momentum that has gathered behind our submission will carry our application for a change to the Finance Bill through, we will keep you informed.
