American company Summer Infant Inc. has announced its recent acquisition of Kiddopotamus, a leading manufacturer and supplier of infant nursery, travel and feeding accessories headquartered in Stilwell, Kansas, USA. Coming in addition to its buy out of Basic Comfort Inc., this will significantly increase the company's portfolio of products and share of the American market.
Kiddopotamus manufactures a broad range of infant safety, comfort and developmental products, including its SwaddleMe baby blankets, which are designed to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Snuzzler adjustable head and body supports for car seats and strollers, and TinyDiner portable placemats.
In 2007, Kiddopotamus generated sales of approximately $13 million. Chris Snedeker and Kristen Peterson, the co-founders of Kiddopotamus, will continue to manage the business, which will be incorporated into Summer Infant's operations.
Basic Comfort is a leading manufacturer and supplier of baby comfort and safety products, including infant sleep positioners, infant head supports and portable changing pads. Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Basic Comfort was the first company to market infant sleep positioners, which aid in the prevention of plagiocephaly, otherwise known as Flat Head Syndrome, and has expanded its product offerings to include a broad range of infant comfort and safety products.
Basic Comfort operates a manufacturing and distribution facility in Denver and generated sales of approximately $10 million in 2007. John Lord and Larry Jewett, the two principal officers of Basic Comfort, will also continue to manage the business, which will be incorporated into Summer Infant's operations under the Summer Infant brand.
‘We are very excited about the acquisition of both these companies' commented Mr. Jason Macari, Chief Executive Officer of Summer Infant,
‘Looking ahead these acquisitions broaden our brand presence in several key high-growth categories, including infant nursery, travel and feeding accessories. We expect the acquisitions of these companies, which generated combined revenues of approximately $23 million in 2007, to significantly contribute to our sales growth in 2008 and beyond. Similar to our recent Basic Comfort acquisition, we also anticipate realizing meaningful cost synergies and expect the acquisition of Kiddopotamus to be accretive in 2008."
