According to the blogging website www.youlookfab.com, maternity wear isn't quite as fickle as main stream fashion. Fashion guru Angie Cox says, ‘Maternity wear silhouettes tend to stay the same because the pregnancy body doesn't change. But subtle trend differences occur each season which are incorporated into maternity wear collections'. This autumn and winter neutrals are back with black being key and grey once more becoming the must-have backdrop. Angie emphasises neat tailoring with pinched in jackets and matching chic suits replacing the previous looser shapes.
At Mamas and Papas, floor space has been expanded to accommodate the increasing demand from mums-to-be. Karen Tyler, Director of Fashion says black is definitely back, ‘Soft separates, tonal purple prints and fine grey knits offer colour and a touch of romance to compliment the sophisticated classic black pieces.' However she is also firmly assured of the need to provide good quality casual pieces and heighlights denim as a central theme, jeans being available in a choice for three lengths.
At Mamas la Mode, the on-line retailer they are concentrating more on navy blue to head up their new ranges. A spokesperson said all combinations of blue from midnight to cornflower are coming in, plus frivolous beads, embroidery and lace in evening wear.
Maternity accessories are the must-have buys that pregnant women are so glad they bought! A V-shaped pillow to keep them upright in bed, warming rice-filled lavander bags to relieve an aching back, a thick, elasticated abdominal band to help ‘lift' the bump up, all kinds of luxurious, feet-relieving toiletries and of course a listening-in device to connect her to that special little person inside.
