In a bid to raise awareness of the importance of child safety in cars and help parents ensure that they comply with the law, Halfords held its National Child Seat Safety Week initiative last month.
Halfords Spoke person Louise Iles commented, ‘Adult seat belts are designed to accommodate adult proportions and are simply not suitable to keep children safe when travelling in the car. Using a child or booster seat suitable for the weight and size of the child is the only safe way for children to travel, no matter how short the journey.'
During National Child Seat Safety Week any parents in need of support, whether they purchased their seat from Halfords or not, were invited to seek advice from their local branch. 2,000 trained child car seat specialists were on hand to offer up to date advice on the law and give free fitting demonstrations on our comprehensive selection of child car seats including leading manufacturers.
Louise added, ‘We were extremely busy with in-store enquiries into the best seat for a customer's child and vehicle, and have noted a growing trend towards ISOFIX products.
‘The introduction of Isofix as well as other technological developments is a great step forward for child seat safety, and we certainly welcome such improvements. However, as with standard fit child car seats, not all Isofix seats are compatible with all cars featuring Isofix points. There is simply no substitute for the care and attention that a child seat fitting specialist, parent or carer can provide.'
