Kind + Jugend 2011 in Cologne, which ended on Sunday, 18th September, set new records in terms of figures for exhibitors and visitors. For the first time, more than 21,000 trade visitors from 106 countries took advantage of this international business platform in Cologne to gain a comprehensive overview of the trends and new products from the global children's outfitting sector. The number of exhibiting companies was also higher than ever before: a total of 940 suppliers from 41 countries presented their product ranges (2010: 815 from 40 countries). "Thanks to growth of more than 15 percent, we've been able to write a new chapter in the success story of the world's largest trade fair for children's outfitting," said Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse GmbH, in his assessment of the fair. "A total of 72 per cent of the visitors came from abroad, and the corresponding figure for exhibitors was 80 per cent. These are not figures you see every day in the trade fair business. They impressively demonstrate the global leadership of Kind + Jugend," added Markus Oster, Vice President at Koelnmesse GmbH.

Whether for avoiding hazards, offering educational value or serving practical needs: To mark the start of the world's largest trade fair for children's outfitting, the sector’s best new products were presented with the Kind + Jugend Innovation Award 2011. A jury of representatives from the trade, the German technical inspectorate TÜV and the media carefully reviewed the new products and selected the winners in a total of eight categories.

The UK pavilion was an even greater success this year, with Cheeky Rascals, NScessity, Really Simple Ideas, BabaSlings, My Carry Potty, Trunki and other top names in attendance. There were newer companies too - stylish baby cookware brand Tum Tum, Snuguns and Cleebo to name just a few. The BPA had clearly put a great deal of work into this. The Association’s Christel Davidson commented: “We are the only country here to have floor stickers promoting the Pavilion. All of the companies in this section are BPA members, so visitors can be assured that all products meet the necessary safety standards. Feedback has been really positive; the Pavilion is over 350 square meters and triple the size of last year!”

On 19th September 2010, after four lively days, Kind + Jugend, the international trade fair for baby and toddler outfitting products, once again came to a close in Cologne with record results. Including conservative estimates for the last day of the fair, more than 19,000 visitors were registered (2009: 18,104), of whom about 75 per cent came from outside Germany.

Kind + Jugend (16th-19th September 2010) will begin with a surprise to mark its fiftieth anniversary: On the basis of their own trade fair history, exhibitors from the fields of fashion and design will be presenting their products on a Fashion High Street in Hall 11.3. The result will be a shopping street for products, collections and product lines from the area of children's fashion, such as clothing for babies and children, textiles and accessories.

It has been reported that, despite the recession, the number of trade visitors to K+J increased by more than seven per cent this year. Around 18,000 trade visitors from 95 countries came to gain an extensive overview of the market, creating a very positive atmosphere at the stands of the 781 exhibiting companies.

Kind + Jugend, the world's leading trade fair for baby and toddlers' outfitting products, not only sets new trends every year; it also serves as the mood indicator for the entire sector. From 17th to 20th September 2009, approximately 800 companies from about 40 countries will come to the Cologne exhibition centre to present their latest products in the segments of children's furniture, safety seats, textiles, prams, hygiene articles, toys and fashion for babies and toddlers. The trade fair continues to show signs of growth, which has even resulted in an expansion of the total exhibition area.

When was Kind and Jugend established?

Koelnmesse conducted its first trade fair for the baby and toddler outfitting sector in 1960. The event was called, simply enough, "baby". At that first event, which took place from 7th to 10th January 1960, a total of 50 exhibitors presented prams, 27 showed buggies and 52 suppliers exhibited babies' and children's fashion at the event. The event's gross exhibition space was approximately 17,000 m². Since then, the trade fair has developed in a very positive fashion and has been complemented with further segments.
