This month sees the Baby Products Association (BPA) launch its 2009 award programme encouraging product innovation within the nursery sector - The BPA Concept & Innovation awards.
As part of its important work for our industry the BPA actively promotes new product development through its award programme. In previous years the scheme has been highly successful; and for the finalists has proven to be a constructive channel for promoting and even launching their new products.
In 2008 the award was presented to Tilly Beazeley and Phil Jackson for The Wean Machine, at the BPA Baby & Child trade show in October. Along with three other finalists, Tilly and Phil exhibited their winning idea on the BPA Concept stand for the duration of the trade event. The Wean Machine received such a positive response from the industry that the unique yet simplistic feeding device is now in production and due to be launched on the UK and international market very soon.
This year the award programme has evolved from its previous core objective to recognise new concepts, into a programme that recognises designs in both in their infancy and those closer to the finished article. So for 2009, there are now two awards; BPA Concept, acknowledging products still in their early visionary phase and BPA Innovation, acknowledging products developed to a potential production stage.
On speaking of the awards, Peter White, BPA Chief Executive commented: "These awards are extremely important to our industry. The nursery sector welcomes new product development particularly when it brings about benefits to child safety and well being. The BPA awards recognise new designs and ideas that have yet to reach the market place, enabling new talent to showcase their products and attract the industry's attention. No other award programme in our business offers such a platform; it's beneficial to the newcomer and inspirational to the trade. "
The closing date for all entries is Wednesday 1st July 2009 and once chosen the 2009 finalists will showcase their designs at BPA Baby & Child 2009 which will be held at London ExCel on 11th -13th October.
