Cuddledry has raised £3000 for Bliss (the special care baby charity) through sales of its limited edition ‘Kangaroo care’ Cuddledry apron towel. The idea for the charity baby bath towel came about when one of the Cuddledry team had her little girl prematurely at just 24 weeks gestation. Now a gorgeous healthy two year old, little Maggie this week presented the donation cheque to Bliss and one of the team from the NICU at St Michaels Hospital Bristol where she was cared for.
The aim of the project has been to raise money and increase awareness of the importance of Kangaroo Care for premature babies, as well as to thank all the carers in the South West who saved Maggie’s life.
“We were inspired to make the Kangaroo towel in aid of Bliss after our office manager, Karen Ryder, gave birth to her daughter Maggie at just 24 weeks weighing a mere 1lb 7oz. Karen and her partner Antony endured an agonising six months of uncertainty while Maggie underwent several major operations, but their gorgeous daughter finally came home. She is now our favourite model for the Cuddledry baby and toddler towelling range”, explains Helen Wooldridge, co-founder of Cuddledry.
Karen adds: “Maggie received amazing 24hr care at hospitals in both Bristol and Bath, for which we are eternally grateful. She is an incredible little girl and this very special new towel is a way of giving something back to support babies just like her.”
The special edition Cuddledry towel includes all the features parents have come to love – like the ability to wear the towel as an apron to keep hands free, easy release poppers, a double layer system with hood that draws water away and super-soft organic unbleached cotton and bamboo fibre – and also features edging with tiny kangaroos, as a reminder of the benefit of Kangaroo Care. As with all Cuddledry towels, it allows you to luxuriously cuddle your baby dry, safely and securely. The charity towel costs £24.99 and is available from www.cuddledry.com or by calling the order line on 01823 323363. £3 from the sale of every towel is donated to Bliss.
Cuddledry has also donated a number of the apron towels to the NICU at St Michaels Hospital for the nurses and parents to use with other premature and sick babies being cared for there.
Used to describe close skin-to-skin contact between babies and parents, Kangaroo Care has been shown to help establish breastfeeding, improve lactation, encourage greater infant weight gain and help parent/child bonding. Under clinical supervision, the practise is found to be particularly beneficial for premature or unwell babies in neonatal units.
