Already renowned for its commitment to ecological production processes and environmentally friendly toys, German toy manufacturer HABA has recently received certification from the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) – the world’s largest forest certification organisation.
The objective of PEFC is to protect the world’s forests while at the same time covering society’s need for the raw material wood. The certification guarantees a sustainable origin and excludes any controversial sources throughout the entire process chain. This means that not only does HABA use wood that originates from sustainable forest management to create its beautiful toys and furniture, but its suppliers do too.
Martin Nield, HABA’s UK Manager, commented: “HABA places huge emphasis on protecting the environment for the next generation and it is this dedication to eco-friendly products that is fast tracking its toys to the top of consumer wish lists.
Not only are HABA’s wooden toys made from sustainable beech wood, but are coloured with water-based, ecological solvent-free lacquers. Cut-outs from its production of children’s furniture are used to manufacture toys and off-cuts of waste wood used to fuel the factory.”
