Kind + Jugend Innovation Award winners announced
Published:  17 September, 2010

The Innovation Award is to Kind + Jugend what a medal is to the Olympic Games. To mark the start of the world's largest trade fair for the children's outfitting sector, the best of 213 submitted innovations were presented with the "Kind + Jugend Innovation Award 2010".

A jury consisting of representatives from the trade, the technical inspectorate TÜV and the media had very carefully reviewed all of the innovations in the run-up to the fair. The nominated and winning products will be on show until the 19th September 2010 at the Kind + Jugend Innovation Area in Hall 11.3.

The Kind + Jugend Innovation Award's importance at national and international level is also confirmed by the number of products submitted by the participants competing for the coveted trophy, which in 2010 has risen once again, this time to a total of 213 products. The entries accepted for the competition were all newly developed or enhanced products that are unlike items already available on the market in terms of form, appearance, material properties, ease of use, and/or technology.

First prize in the category World of Moving Baby (prams, buggies and travel systems) went to the Babyzen pram from the company RECARO GmbH & Co. KG for its LED light installed on the pram, a function that has long been found in other forms of transport. "The light on the handlebar can be turned on at dusk to ensure a much higher level of safety for parents and child, and it is attractively integrated into the overall design," said the jury.

In the World of Travelling Baby category the winner was the children's safety-seat CYBEX Pallas-fix plus ISOFIX connect from the company Columbus Trading Partners GmbH. "It was an easy decision for us. The product is the first seat to offer a depth adjustable child restraint in all three sizes, equipped with ISOFIX connect," was the unanimous conclusion behind the jury's voting.

In the category World of Moving Baby & Travelling Baby Accessories (accessories for prams, travel systems and children's safety-seats) the winning innovation was the Free Rider from Phil and Teds. Creatively adapted from kickboards, this product enables older kids to hang onto a pram and be pulled along if they are tired, or also to simply have fun being mobile without the pram.

The Juka 9 changing table from Struck Handelsgesellschaft mbH won in the category World of Baby Safety at Home (safety-related products for babies and toddlers in the home). Starting from its configuration as a changing table, the Juka 9 can be made absolutely safe for the little ones in just three steps: pull up, pull forward and secure. "The emphasis on safety impressed us. This is a simple and ingenious system, and we think it is remarkable that something like this has never been available before," said the jury.

With the cap from the company Twinkle Kid UG, a fashionable accessory for winter was recognized in the category World of Baby Textiles (home textiles, baby and toddler clothes etc.). The hat's reflective pom-pom provides kids with 360° safety on dark streets, making the way to school in winter much safer. Twinkle Kid UG and Juka 9, two of the youngest innovative companies that won Innovation Awards, are receiving funding from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for their participation at Kind + Jugend. This is yet another confirmation that the funding programme helps young companies to market their products by taking part in trade fairs.

Mobility with the kids is made possible by the iiamo Go bottle system from the company iiamo Aps, which was recognized with the Kind + Jugend Innovation Award in the category World of Baby Care (hygiene products, electrical appliances). "It functions without the need for wires or electricity -perfect for on the go. That offers maximum mobility for parents and child," said the impressed jury. The secret is a heating cartridge consisting of just salt and water.

In the category World of Baby Furniture (children's furniture and accessories), the Kind + Jugend Innovation Award went to Baby Dan A/S for their product Angel 2010. The jury was impressed by the product, which features clear, Nordic design and combines the three functions of a crib, a baby bouncer, and a highchair.
