2012: THE NEW TOMY – RE-STRUCTURED
Published:  01 December, 2011

Clive Wooster, Head of European Sales

TOMY is the number one toy company in Japan and by 2015 its aim is to be the largest toy company worldwide following the acquisition of RC2 earlier this year. This goal is totally achievable with the company’s core growth strategy in place to transform itself into a global giant by maximising its ability to deploy its global development capacity and capitalise on overall efficiencies.

In the US, former RC2/Learning Curve is now fully operational as TOMY International and TOMY Europe is well on its way to combining the two businesses and once integrated will create the 8th largest toy company in the UK.

Stage 1 of this integration process has taken place with the incorporated Sales & Marketing groups now in place. Clive Wooster has been appointed Head of European Sales, combining a strong team of experienced National Account Managers from both businesses to manage the UK market. He will be responsible for overseeing the regional offices in Germany, Benelux and Spain and works closely with Lionel Delisle, General Sales Manager of TOMY France.

Joanne Gray has been appointed Head of European Marketing. The Marketing team is now split into four categories, Mother, Infant & Toddler headed by Antonia Rainbow; Preschool lead by Mark Ashurst; Boys/Girls will be headed by Ruth Williams; and Gacha will be controlled by Morgan Weyl. The Farm and Agricultural sector of the business will operate separately due to its specialism. Emilia Lawes, who previously managed Export Sales for Learning Curve will be responsible for this division, based in Exeter.

Marketing, Sales & Product Development will be based at TOMY’s offices in Sutton, Finance Operations and Customer Services will be located at RC2’s premises in Exeter and the Product Integrity department will be based in Totten.

New Developments:

The newly structured TOMY Europe is all set to showcase its exciting integrated product ranges at 2012LondonandNurembergtoy fairs. Hot new licences include Raa Raa the Noisy Lion, the iconic new Winnie the Pooh infant range and the launch of Chuggington Wooden Railway.

TOMY’s proprietary evergreen portfolio will include radical developments in the Lamaze, Play to Learn and Aquadoodle ranges which will inject further growth into these already established and successful brands.  K’Nex expects to see a significant increase in sales for 2012 with more introductions across the key age focus, particularly with K’Nex Mario Kart Wii which has enjoyed soaring sales throughout 2011.

In 2012 TOMY will concentrate on re-establishing its key Nursery business.  The First Years range is a leading brand in theUSand the vast collection will be steadily introduced throughoutEurope.  The TOMY brand is synonymous with trust and quality by parents across the globe and TOMY is expanding and building its categories to become one of the main players within this Nursery sector.

Global initiatives will come to the fore for 2012 and beyond. The marketing and development teams are already working collaboratively to bring to market some revolutionary new brands and licences as well as introducing some fundamental innovation to their essential classic favourites.
