Leading animal welfare charity the RSPCA has awarded a licence to toy design and production company WOW Toys to produce a range of toys for the pre-school market. Called My Pocket Pets, they are a set of cute collectable RSPCA animal figure packs suitable for children aged 18 months and upwards.
Each pack contains an adorable animal figure, plus an RSPCA activity sheet that includes fun activities such as dot-to-dot games, colouring in, an RSPCA cartoon and an RSPCA information section aimed at teaching pre-school children about animal welfare. There are six cute animal figures in the series: Pippi the pooch, Socks the cat, Clarissa the cow, Patch the pig, Wiggles the Dalmatian and Jenny the horse.
RSPCA My Pocket Pets will be on sale from early February. The line will be stocked in a wide range of high street and online outlets including Waterstones, Tesco, WH Smiths, Tesco Direct, Amazon and participating RSPCA outlets. The toys will also be listed in garden centres and independent toy shops, as well as a number of post offices and newsagents, through WOW Toys’ wholesale network. The agreement between the RSPCA and WOW Toys is for five years. Further products are to be developed and launched throughout 2013.
RSPCA My Pocket Pets are not just fun, educational and very durable toys, they are designed to be extra safe and meet all global safety standards. They contain no small parts, no PVC and no toxic paint, and are free from cadmium, phthalates and PAH.
The product packaging is designed in RSPCA blue, with the RSPCA embossed wallpaper background. The RSPCA logo appears on the front of every package and is also included on the activity sheet inserted inside each pack. It will be clearly printed on the counter display unit that will be used to display the product at retail.
WOW Toys focuses on designing high quality, safe, tough and lasting toys that are not reliant on batteries. The company was launched in 1997 and its products are now available in over 900 UK retailers and 40 countries around the world.
The RSPCA’s licensing manager Cathy Snow said: “Pocket Pets perfectly brings together charming and fun toys that children will love with an easy to understand and appealingly presented message about animal welfare. It will not only encourage awareness but will also help to raise valuable funds that will allow the RSPCA to continue helping to care for animals. We are delighted to be working with WOW Toys in what are sure will be a long and productive partnership.”
The WOW range will further boost awareness of the fast-growing RSPCA licensing campaign, a campaign that has already seen the charity make strong inroads as a trusted and high quality brand into a number of categories. The RSPCA is looking at, or has already signed, deals in such areas as apparel, giftware, toys, housewares, stationery, publishing, pet food, wild animal food and pet accessories.
Alison Watson, brand manager, WOW Toys, added: “Bringing together our own passion for toy design with the help and guidance of the RSPCA has resulted in toys that we believe will delight and inform the under-fives. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with a loved and respected charity on products that will not just entertain but make a difference.”
